Hanging on my Skirt tail......lol

Measuring tape and ruler
We need brown paper so that we can make our paper pattern, also we will need this ruler

Square a line on the brown patterning paper and use push pins to hold brown paper in place.  With a pencil mark out the arc of the radius.  Measure out the desired length of the skirt out from the waist curve , mark out the arc of skirt hem.

Label the pattern with, name of piece, cutting info, seam allowance (SA) info and grain info Create a waistband pattern by measuring out length of the waistband and add 2" extension for closure overlap.  Measure width of waistband 3/4" finished.  Also add a 3/4" inch SA.

*LABEL BOTH PATTERN PIECES THAT HAVE BEEN CUT OUT....THE SKIRT & WAISTBAND*

Sew the side of the skirt together first with a side SA of 1" inch, this is before you join the waistband to the skirt.  You will leave 11" open on the left side seam for the zipper

Pin the zipper to the fabric at the 11" seam opening and then bast stitch to hold zipper in place

I reworked this Zipper 7 times....whoohoo I finally got it!

This is several different shots of how to lay this zipper down......The LAP Zipper

This is the waistband that has been marked for attaching the waistband

The blue line is the sewing line for the waistband

 This is the finished waistband

The hook and eye go on the waistband at the ends.. The open ends must be sewn down before adding the hook and eye

Now to hem it up...2" hem line folks

Hem the skirt with a cross stitch after basting stitch first..ps.  You may have a few gathers here and there for the hem to work out.

This is the finished product....my swing skirt....hahaha!!
